| The rapid development of economy promotes the progress of human society andhuman civilization. However, when the humans satisfy their own material andspiritual enjoyment, a series of problems of ecological security occur one after another. At present, the eco-security issues threaten the survival of the humans from both ofthe global and regional scale. Ecological security with military security, economicsecurity, political security, defense security is of equal importance. The study onecological security has become a hot research topic both at home and abroad. With the proposition of strategy “Reconstructing Lanzhouâ€, Lanzhou NewArea will usher in a period of great development in next few years, whichwill inevitably pose a threat on its ecological environment with the developmentand increase of economy and population. Evaluating the status quo of ecologicalsecurity and coping with ecological threat in the light of local conditions ofLanzhou New Area are of a certain guiding significance for its environmentalprotection and ecological safety construction.Based on four aspects, namely, land surface climate-vegetation-soilnatural distribution law of complex zones, the integrated regional physicalbackground, the ecosystem stability, the landscape structure and the outsideexternal interference and supported by GIS and fuzzy mathematics, the author builtregional ecological security assessment index system and evaluation methods, andcalculated the entire regional ecological security index of2007.The results showed that both the uneven distribution of ecological security andthe significant differences in regional ecological security protrude conspicuously inLanzhou’s newly developed Area. Human activities are intense, which impactsregional ecological security most significantly in its core zone. However, barrenhills and sandy lands are mostly in its surrounding areas, and vegetation coverage isnot appropriate, with the result of low degree of human disturbance. Lanzhou NewArea locates in Qin Wangchuan Basin, where the surrounding terrain is above theinternal core area and thus forms a natural barrier. As a result, in the future consutruction, on the one hand, the ecological planning and ecological constructionare necessary in the core region which got lower security index inecological evaluation, strengthening ecological restoration and construction of theabove-mentioned regions and directly improving its ecological security are alsoessential; on the other hand, for the regions which got relatively higher security indexin ecological evaluation, ecological restoration and vigorously closing hillsides tofacilitate afforestation and forest conservation are supposed to improve the vegetationcoverage and regional landscape structure and increase the ecological stability in theabove-mentioned regions, which can not only further improve the ecological safetyof Lanzhou New Area, but also provide a natural barrier to its core area and play animportant role in improving its ecological safety. |
