Heavy vehicles are widely used in special situation, such as national defense construction,oilfield operation, mining, transportation, etc. The frame is one of the important components invehicles. The welding deformation of frame side rail is difficult to control. The dimensional toleranceof welded frame is easy to overrun, which causes the poor yield of the vehicle frame. A combinationof numerical simulation and welding test was studied in this thesis. The distribution of weldingtemperature field, stress field and deformation was achieved, which provides guidance for the controlof welding deformation of the frame side rail.The welding finite element model of test pieces was established in this thesis. A variety ofwelding power, welding speed and welding sequence were used in numerical simulation. The law ofwelding temperature field, stress field and deformation was achieved.The welding experiments were dealt with using simulating workpieces. The welding temperaturewas captured real-time. The residual stress was measured by XRD. The welding deformation wasacquired by special frame side rail testing platform. The measured welding temperature, weld residualstress and weld deformation were compared with simulated data. The result shows that finite elementmodel is effective.Method to control the welding deformation of frame side rail was put forward on the basis of thetest pieces. The finite element simulation and experimental study for the welding of heavy vehiclesframe side rail was carried out, which provided the process parameters with less welding deformation.
