Polyaniline (PANI) has been considered to be one of the most promisingelectrochromic materials, due to its good conductivity, oxidation reduction property, and low price of aniline(An) monomer. But its molecular chain stiffness, highstereoregularity and good crystallinity lead to its poor melting process and restrict itsapplication. In recent years, people modified PANI through various mesns, thepolyaniline derivatives is good at many performance such as, solubility, catalytic and soon. So people pay more and more attention on the derivatives. The poly(2,3-dimethylaniline) this paper studied was good at solution andanti-corrosion. Because of introducting donating electron group in2,3-dimethylaniline,its molecular chain stiffness was significantly reduced, inter-chain force decreased, sosolubility improved. And as the introduction of donating electron group, the oxidationpotentials of aniline droped, and activity increased. At the same time, the changing ofthe electronic energy band and domain distribution of electron result in the corrosionpotential increased and anticorrosion performance was better. But due to the introducingof donating electron group, the monomer was easily oxidated and the polymerizationbecame harder. So the conditions of emulsion polymeration of2,3-dimethylanilinewere discussed. The emulsion polymeration was a method of preparing macromoleclar polymers.Because of its stable synthesis system, rapid polymerization rate, uniform polymerparticle size distribution and so on, this method has grasped more attention. In thispaper, the optimal conductions of emulsion polymerization with single emulsifier orcompound emulsifier of poly(2,3-dimethyl aniline) was discussed through cyclicvoltammetry curves, Tafel curve, yield and solubility.P(2,3-DMA) was synthesized by emulsion polymerization which using ammoniumperoxydisulfate as initiator, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) or compoundemulsifier as emulsifier. The results showed that only using SDBS as emulsifier, eachperformance of the product was excellent when the molar ratio of SDBS to2,3-DMA is0.8:1, the molar ratio of APS to2,3-DMA is2:1, the molar ratio of HCl to2,3-DMA is3:1and reaction time is18h. At the same time, the emulsion system of SDBS/TX-100/2,3-DMA/HCl was prepared and APS was used as initiator in this paper. When themass ratio of TX-100to SDBS is3:1, the mass ration of composite emulsifier to monomer is3:1, the molar ratio of APS to monomer is2:1and reaction time is12h, theproperties of P(2,3-DMA) is excellent. And the result indicate that the comoundemulsifier emulsion method was valuable in practice though comparing theperformance of the product which was prepared by compound emulsifier and singleemulsifier emulsion method respectively.
