In this paper, three factors of the concentration of hydrochloric acid etching, hydrochloric acid etching processing time, the mass fraction of aluminum zirconium coupling agent were chosen as the three factors of L9(33) orthogonal test program to modify basalt fibers(BF). also the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were used to study the adsorption capacity of aluminum zirconium coupling agent of the BF surface. Then, the effect of different etching concentrations of hydrochloric acid on the BF surface was studied, then, scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM) and X-ray energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS) were adopted to study the physical and chemical changes of the BF surface. At last, mechanical properties the BFRP of different concentrations of hydrochloric acid etching and different coupling agent treatment were studied and compared. Then, the SEM was used to study the glue of the BFRP surfaces. The conclusions are as followed:(1)FTIR and XPS results of BF surface showed that:new functional group of C=O key and-O=C=O-key were emerged after the treatment of aluminum zirconium coupling agent; the influence of Zr/Si was hydrochloric acid concentration of>aluminum zirconium coupling agent mass fraction of> hydrochloric acid processing time.(2)SEM and AFM results showed that:the number of the grooves of the BF surface and depth increase with the improvement of the concentration of hydrochloric acid; the EDS test results showed that:the relative content of alkali metals of BF surface, such as Ca, Mg, A1reduced with the improvement of concentration of hydrochloric acid.(3)The influence of different concentrations of hydrochloric acid etching on the mechanical properties of composite showed that:with the hydrochloric acid concentration increased, the tensile properties of BF-Epoxy increased, and got the maximum at the12mol/L, the flexural properties increased and got the maximum at the9mol/L, after etching treatment, the ILSS reduced significant; with the hydrochloric acid concentration increased, the tensile properties of BF-PF increased, and got maximum at the12mol/L, the flexural properties and ILSS were in inverse proportion to reduce, and got the maximum at6mol/L.(4) The comparison results of surface treatment with different coupling agent of KH550and aluminum zirconium coupling agent showed that:the KH550group of BF-Epoxy got better tensile strength and flexural strength. Also, after the etching treatment, the ILSS decreasing amplitude of KH550group was less than the aluminum zirconium coupling agent group; the tensile properties of aluminum zirconium coupling agent group of BF-PF were better than KH550group, but the ILSS and flexural properties of aluminum zirconium coupling agent group was lower than the KH550group.
