Ethylene pyrolysis furnace with high-tech is the key part of the ethylene equipment and also a high energy consumption device. Improving the efficiency of pyrolysis is an important way to reduce the production cost. The heat transfer efficiency and production yield can be optimized by modifying the structure of the furnace.A new type of heat-exchanger tube fitted with helical tapes is invented in this paper. This thermal enhanced tube can be used in pyrolysis furnace. The heat transfer performance of the tube is studied with CFD simulation.The detailed mechanism for pyrolysis of naphtha is researched and the database of the reactions and thermodynamic is developed. One numerical simulation method of the couple process of radical reactions and heat transfer is established. The simulation results acquired by FLUENT are closed to industry datum.Furthermore the numerical simulation is repeated with the tube fitted with helical tapes. Heat and mass transfer performance is significantly enhanced by using this tube in pyrolysis furnace. It is observed that the ethylene and propylene yield is increased by 2% and 3% respectively.The flue velocity field, temperature field and concentration field inside the furnace is simulated byβ-PDF combustion model and DO radiation model. Moreover, the influence burner structure is studied.
