As a basic craft in leather processing, the "folding" plays an important role in itsproduction of being aesthetics, consistency and production efficiency. At present,processing of the leather-folding work is nearly completed by hand or a combinationof manual and mechanical operations at home and abroad, while existing problems intechnology and equipment of folding depend on the quality of the skills of workers,and the efficiency in the production of folding is low. Therefore, improving theprocessing of folding to achieve the directing interfacing of the level of intelligentfolding technology and its digital product design, and it has become a research topicin the beginning of this century.A high-performance automatic folding machine system based on SOPC (SystemOn Programmable Chip) embedded systems technology is designed in this thesis, andthe innovative research and development is done in the aspect of the design of foldingand the folding CNC technology. The design of control system is the core issue ofdigital folding machine, with in-depth analysis of the mechanical structure, foldingcraft and works and on the full use of SOPC technology in advantages of hardwareand software co-design, modular reusable, parallel execution capability, replacing thetraditional MCU (Micro Control Unit) control mode, research and design of digitfolding machines’ hardware platforms, software systems and folding file, make theautomatic and digital folding technology become true.The control part of digital folding machine is a multi-parameter and complexmulti-physical system, the core of the SOPC system is built by Altera’s Cyclone seriesEP1C12Q240C8chip in this dissertation, including hardware design, software designand folding file design. Hardware platform includes FPGA hardware implementationof the control panel and peripheral components, system-on-chip digital logic circuits, Nios Ⅱ processor and peripheral IP core hardware systems, and the main designedcontents are completed in the Quartus Ⅱ8.1development platform. Software systemsincluding PC monitoring system and Nios Ⅱ processor systems programming, arecompleted in Visual Basic6.0and NIos Ⅱ IDE8.1development environment. Foldingfile includes header information and body hem data file format definition, anddesigned a DXF file conversion program. Finally, the experimental prototypedebugging validated research and development in this paper folding leather digitalcontrol scheme are feasible.
