As is known to all, the important way to solve water pollution is building municipalwastewater treatment plants. However, wastewater treatment is one of the energy-intensiveindustries, that is, it is not only high investment, but also high running costs. Under thebackground of "energy conservation and emission reduction", the study of aerationsystem-"the largest energy consumption" has good environmental and economic benefits tosave energy and reduce consumption.Taking the surface aeration system and blasting aeration system of some municipalwastewater treatment plants with modified A2/O oxidation ditch process in guangdongprovince city as examples, investing and analysising the energy consumption of two aertationsystems, studying the potential energy saving, exploring the energy-saving ways can provide atheoretical foundation and technical support for the design and management of aerationsystem in urban wastewater treatment plants. The present study compared the oxygenation efficiency and analyzed the energy-savingpotention of the surface aeration system and blasting aeration system with modified A2/Ooxidation ditch under the same conditions, that is, the same sewage treatment scale, the sameinfluent quality, and the effluent quality also can meet the discharge standard. At the sametime, the study investigated the oxygen transfer rate of both the new and old aeration dish. Theresults of the study show that: the oxygenation effect of the surface aeration system was lessthan blasting aeration system; the average power consumption for a ton of wastewater in thefirst stage of the first plant was0.026kW h、0.031kW h respectively higher than the blastingaeration of the second stage of the first plant and the second plant; the average annualenergy-saving potential of the surface aeration system and blasting aeration systemrespectively were19.7%、24.5%in2010; the oxygen transfer rate of the old aeration plate forbeing used for more than four years was29.2%lower than new one.It is suggested that blasting aeration is the priority choice when designing aerationsystem of sewage treatment plant for handling a larger volume of sewage. Surface aerationsystem of the built sewage treatment plant can be transformed into the blasting aerationsystem. This will achieve our purpose for saving energy. Doing the maintenances work ofaerator in the daily operation, timely cleaning and changing the damaged and blocked aeratorcan avoid the waste of energy consumption.
