Polygon contour has better features when served as profile connection piece compared with keys and splines, and its processing performance and accuracy have great influence on the development and application prospect of the combination of curve surface in the field of mechanical. So it is of great importance to study on the polygon grinding process to improve the machining efficiency and quality and reduce cost.First, this paper analysed the research background of this project, the polygon grinding status in domestic and foreign and the application of automatic programming technology in the field of grinding. Then the polygon constant speed mathematical model was built according to non-circular section grinding theory. Furthermore, a mathematical model applied in the whole process system was established based on the analysis of the actual processing caused by the radius of dressing changes and the margin of the grinding accuracy.The software of automatic programming designed for polygon NC grinding is created by C++Builder which helped with the interface design and data calculating. In this module, from which NC code directly used for numerical control grinding could be achieved, the workpiece definition, setting of process parameters, data calculation and curve output are integrated together. It is verified by the simulation that the automatic programming software could generate NC program correctly, and the anticipate goal of development has already achieved.the polygon grinding process dynamic simulation was developed by ADAMS. Beside, experiment using the code which was created by the self-programming programming system for polygon CNC grinding was carried out. And the code is proved to be reliable.
