PBT is an important engineering thermoplastic with low crack propagation energy, high crack initiation energy and low notched impact strength. The stiffness and toughness of PBT are very important for their practical applications. So how to improve the toughness and stiffness of PBT is very important. The core-shell modifier used in this thesis is glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) functionalized ABS (ABS-g-GMA) with polybutadiene (PB) rubber as core, SAN and GMA copolymer as shell. Epoxy resin (Epoxy) was used as chain extender to improve the properties of PBT blends. Glass fiber (GF) was used to improve the stiffness of PBT blends. The main research works of this paper are as follows:ABS-g-GMA core-shell particles with different GMA content were synthesized by emulsion polymerization method and were used to toughen PBT/Epoxy blends. The result demonstrated that when GMA content was1%, the notched impact strength of771J/m was achieved, and super-tough PBT alloy was obtained.ABS-g-GMA core-shell particles with different core-shell ratios were synthesized by emulsion polymerization method and which were used to toughen PBT/Epoxy blends. The result demonstrated that when the core-shell ratio was60/40, the notched impact strength of the polymer blend was apparently improved, and super-tough PBT alloy was obtained.ABS-g-GMA core-shell particles with different TDDM content were synthesized by emulsion polymerization method and were used to toughen of PBT/Epoxy blend. The result demonstrated that, with the increase of TDDM content, ABS-g-GMA grafting degree decreased, and grafted chain became shorter, molecular weight reduced. Polymer melt viscosity became lower. The melt flow more easily and lead to good liquidity and easy molding process. The obtained core-shell ABS-g-GMA particles with core-shell ratio of60/40, GMA content of1%were used to blend with PBT. Different amounts of glass fiber (GF) were added to enhance the strength of PBT/ABS-g-GMA blends. The results showed, with the increase of GF content, the tensile strength of the system significantly increased.
