The components of machine with the development of China’s machinery industryrequired higher. It is not to achieve the desired processing results if we adopt theconventional machining techniques. Ultrasonic vibration cutting is a processingtechnology, in which ultrasonic vibration is regularly added to the tool, so that the toolcan periodically cut and separate from the work piece, it can reduce the cutting forces,the cutting temperature and improve processing quality. Its processing characteristicsstill have some defects (for example, when the tool leaves workpiece, the friction willproduced between the rake face of the tool and the machined surface, while the cuttingtool will bear an ever-changing alternating stress in the cutting process).Two-dimensional ultrasonic vibration cutting technology makes two kinds of vibrationadd to the cutting tool, where make the cutting edge along the elliptical path. When thetool left the surface, the rake face of tool will not contact with the machined surface,which makes the friction avoided. Meanwhile, the harmful friction between the rearface of the tool and the chip becomes favorable, which makes the chip easier todischarge. In this case, it can reduce the formation of burr and prolonged the life oftool, etc.In this thesis, the theory of two-dimensional ultrasonic vibration cutting and theprinciple of device are explained. The ladder compound horn is designed with themethod of four-terminal network and dynamic analysis for the opened chute of horn ismade using the finite element method. By changing the size of the opened chute anddistance of the large (small) end-face, the small end-face of the horn makes anelliptical trajectory, while the resonant frequency of the horn in the range of theultrasonic generator. Through the single factor experiment, the influence of differentcutting parameters on cutting force and surface roughness are studied, compared withcommon turning and traditional ultrasonic vibration turning, Two-dimensionalultrasonic vibration cutting has lower cutting force and surface roughness thancommon turning and traditional ultrasonic vibration turning.
