Combinatorial material chip technology is a multi-components material research method whose characteristic is to prepar sample library at the same time and following a high throughput screening. Many kinds of elements that act as alloying agents in titanium alloys make the phase transformation of titanium alloys even more complex. In this paper, several titanium material chips were fabricated by an ion beam sputtering method in the form of combinatorial material chip. Gradiently changed content of alloying element in each library realized the combination of alloying agents. After alloying, the x-ray diffraction as well as nanoindention methods were used to research the phase transformations and mechanical properties of the samples. The main research results are as follows:1. In order to transfrom multilayer samples into the form of titanium thin film containing alloying agent such as Al、V、Cr and Mo, it is adaptive that the librariy subjected to vacuum annealing at600℃for an hour, following annealing at950℃for an hour.2. EDS、XPS and observation of cross senctional thickness of films are used to determine the composition of the sample and to inentify the consistency with the designed composition.3. SEM and AFM images indicate that the morphology of the sample is affected by the alloying condition. The α-phase and β-phase could not be distinguished by the morphology of the sample yet.4. Nanoindention test shows that mechanical properties of samles after the same alloying treatment depend not only on the compositon of the films, but also on the morphology and size of crystalline grain.5With the raise of equivalance of molybdeuun., volume fraction of the β-phase increases, illustrated by the XRD analysis of phase constitution of same samples. The fact that alloying agents play nearly the same role on both bulk titanium alloys and titanium thin film suggests that high-permformance combinatorial material chip technology is applicable for design as well as fundamental research on titanium alloys.
