Spindle system is the key function component of machine tool. The processing quality of machine tool is mainly depending on the performance of spindle. With the machine tool developing towards higher speed and precision, the manufacturing industry commodes more and more higher characteristics to the spindle system. In the paper, a series of experiments on oil air lubrication, for the Kessler motorized spindle of VMC0656e vertical marching center, have been studied, to receive the optimum parameter for using oil air lubrication and to provide the theoretical basis for motorized spindle achieving higher speed. Simultaneously, performance comparison between the ceramic ball bearing and steel ball bearing has been analyzed.Basing on VMC0656e vertical marching center and using Dropsa oil-air lubrication equipment, a series of oil-air lubrication experimentations for Kessler motorized spindle used in machine tool have been performed. The single factor experimentations have been completed with VG220#oil by7000r/min. That is changing the quantity of oil and detecting the temperature arising of the bearing used in motorized spindle. By the means of orthogonal method, the experimental study on the parameters of oil air lubrication, such as the type of lubricant oil, the quantity of oil, the pressure of oil-air, affected the temperature changing of the bearing used in motorized spindle speeding at8000r/min,12000r/min and18000r/min. After that, the temperature changing of the bearing has been recorded, and examined a variety of lubrication of motorized spindle.By analyzing the experimental date and comparing the cure, which of the experimental date, fitting by MATLAB. The relation of every kind of the oil-air parameters affecting on the temperature arising of the bearing was obtained:when spindle at slow-speed, the type of lubricant oil is the major factor affecting the temperature arising of the bearing; when10000r/min, the pressure of oil-air is the major factor; when high-speed, the quantity of lubricant oil become the major factor. So that the best constitute of the oil-air lubricant parameter has been determined. At the same time, the theory basis for the motorized spindle using oil-air lubricant equipment has been obtained.According to rolling theory, the mathematical model of rolling bearing has been established and solved by numerical method. The NSK ceramic ball bearing modeled45BRN19HTYNSULP4and same specification steel ball bearing was the object for calculation. By the mathematical model, the dynamic fiction losses and rigid, between the ceramic ball bearing and steel ball bearing, has been compared. Characteristics curve of the two bearings has been fitted with MATLAB. Performance comparison of the two bearings has been obtained. Ceramic ball bearing is more suitable for machine tool spindle at high-speed occasions.
