The aluminum foam has the characteristics of light weight, acoustic sound insulation,adiabatic flame retardant and high specific strength because of porous structure. But it alsohas some disadvantages such as easily being bended to failure and less energy absorption.And the aluminum foam sandwich structure which filled with aluminum foam has strongerenergy absorption ability and better bending performance. But it was seldom studied.This topic is willing to study the application of AFS on parts of car body, while thelimitation of the time and energy, this paper only studies on the material properties and theapplication in the front energy energy-absorbing box. The detailed contents are as follows:Study on aluminum foam sandwich structure matrix: aluminum, steel, and variousporosity aluminum foam to master the material properties. Finite element model is alsobuilt. Some experiments must be done to study the influence of aluminum foam porosityand the average pore size of the aluminum foam.Study on the aluminum foam sandwich, some experiments will be done to find theeffect of adhesive. And experimental and numerical investigations will also be done tostudy the influence of the plate thickness, material and the porosity of aluminum foam tothe sandwich panel bending performanceStudy on the aluminum foam sandwich tube, first the influence of diameter tothickness ratio and upper down diameter ratio to the hollow aluminum alloy tubecompression performance, and then the relationship of the hollow tube, pure aluminum,and filled tubes. Finally the influence of diameter ratio, porosity, the inner and outer tubethickness and material to the sandwich tube compression performance.Based on the research above and other researches about aluminum foam andenergy-absorbing box, the sandwich tube will be put in the car-the energy-absorbing box.Make the substitute by selecting the similar compression curve to the original one. It canbe evaluated better or worse by find the differences of Steering column after the shift of thecenter, the front bezel shift after shift after the brake pedal, the shift of the steering columncenter and the center of mass acceleration and quality.
