| Succinate ester, glutaric ester, adipate ester and sebacate esterwere synthesized by the different acids and the different alcoholsrespectively. The effect of the rate of acid and alcohol and reactiontime on esterification were discussed. The molecular structures wereanalyzed by the infrared spectrum. Their tribological behaviors such asthe last nonseizure load and wear scar diameter were investigated by theMR-S10B four-ball machine, and their topographies of the worn surfaceof steel ball were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).Comparing with the alcohol and the ester, alcohols had lower PBvalue. The results showed that the PBvalue of the synthetic ester includingdioctyl adipate, adipate capric ester, dioctyl sebacate, and dioctylsebacate were higher than the PBvalue of the corresponding alcohols, thehighest PBvalue is470N. In the long friction tests, the antifrictionperformance of succinate esters was not obvious, glutaric dioctyl esterand glutarate capric ester had low friction coefficient, but the frictioncoefficient of glutarate capric ester was relatively stable. The frictioncoefficient decreased along the time. Adipate capric ester and dioctylsebacate showed a good friction properties. It could form a protectivefilm on the wear surface in the process of the long friction, whichenhanced the efficiency of the tribological properties of adipates becamebetter with the increasing length of the carbon chain. The optimumconditions of synthetic of adipate were as follows: molar ratio is3:1,reaction time is3h. The friction coefficient of the four ester decreasedand then increased with the increasing of the load at the beginning, forthe chemical reaction film formed, so the friction coefficient decreases, when the load increases to a certain level, and then the frictioncoefficient gradually increased. The general trend of the synthetic ester of the wear scar diameter increases with the load increasing underdifferent loads. |
