With the development of automobile industry in China, a higher requirement has been put forward to the motor-engine. Crankshafts are one of the most important parts in motor-engine with a complex and varied work condition. Therefore, every step during crankshafts manufacturing process requires a high quality.Turn-turn broaching machining is a kind of craft which is widely used in the rough machining and semi-finish machining of crankshaft main journal with high-efficiency, high-precision and high-flexibility. Nowadays, it becomes a hot research spot of the crankshaft advanced manufacturing technology.A kind of turn-turn broaching craft in Germany has been analyzed in this paper including its machining process, tool discs, inserts and cutting parameters. The results indicated that during the development of turn-turn broaching, there are nearly no difference between them in general but in cutting inserts and cutting method. The turn-turn broaching process can be improved by changing their cutting inserts and cutting method. An oblique cutting insert which is in the tool disc of turn-turn broaching are chosen in this paper. An analysis on its dynamic relationship between inserts and workpiece is put forward. Based on the analysis, an experiment and testing platform have been built. The influence of two factors (feed rate and cutting depth) on cutting process and cutting results are studied. The results indicated that the increase of feed rate and cutting depth lead to the increase of axial cutting force and material removing rate while the circular of workpiece is increased by the increasing of feed rate but decreased by cutting depth.
