With the increasing development of precision and ultra-precision technology, the demand for the accuracy of parts of equipment is increasing, which lead to a higher demand of accuracy on the machinery that processes the parts. To maintain the accuracy of the workpiece, grinding is an important step in finishing. In order to meet the development of needs, the grinding technology is developing towards the direction of precision, low surface roughness, high efficiency, high speed and automatic grinding. With a prolonged grinding, the grinding wheel needs to be dressed for its worn edge. To make sure the dressing is high in accuracy, a higher demand on the performance of the wheel dresser should be set. Therefore, this paper proposes that the guide support moving parts of the Y7125gear grinding wheel dresser should be transformed into the integral air flotation guideway and the performance of it partially loaded due to the unbalanced external force is studied.Through theoretical analysis, this paper studies the gas film pressure distribution, the bearing capacity and the total amount of air flow of the integral air flotation guideway at different angles. Firstly, the control equations of gas lubrication suitable for the partially loaded situation of the integral air flotation cushion are derived and simplified and the corresponding boundary conditions are given. Secondly, the equations are discretized by the finite difference method and are programmed in the MATLAB environment and are solved by the super relaxation (SLOR) method. Then the bearing capacity of the integral air flotation guideway at different angles is got. Again, the bearing capacity of the integral air flotation guideway at different angles is tested on test bench. In the test, the film thickness of three different points is measured and the plane of the three points and its corresponding bearing capacity are calculated. And the working principles of the experimental devices, using methods and test data are analyzed. Then a contrastive analysis between the results by test and by theoretical calculation is carried out, which provide a theoretical basis for the application of the integral air flotation guideway in the wheel dressing. Finally, when mounting clearance and partial load angle of the integral air flotation guideway is given, force analysis of the Y7125gear grinding wheel dresser is carried out to calculate the force in the diamond pen of grinding wheel dressing in three directions, which provide a theoretical basis for the practical application in engineering. Thus, the feasibility of the integral air flotation guideway used in grinding wheel dresser is verified in both theoretical and experimental aspects.
