Recent research has indicated that leakage accidents in pressure vessels and pipes often happened because of the complexity operation conditions in petro-chemical process. However, the leakage structure could not be easily replaced due to the long-term operation and flow characteristics of device. Hence, how to raise the efficiency of replacing the leakage component during operation is increasingly important in modern petro-chemical industry.Nowadays, Sheath is widely used in Dalian Petro-chemical Corporation. However, the mature management system design of Sheath has not been reported yet, let alone fully designed system which includes sheath types selection, inspection, design, and safety evaluation.Based on this situation, the finite element analysis method to sheath strength and its management system are focused in this article. The main content and conclusions are listed below:(1) There were272sheathes in overall Dalian Petro-chemical Corporation. They were mainly distributed in plants of catalysis, water supply and drainage, trione benzene, ethyl benzene, secondary refined, combined heat and power. The catalysis plants were the most important area, which accounted for about39%of the total number of the sheath. There are four types of sheath in the company:pure sheath, lined sheath, glue-injected sheath and Pipeline repair.(2) The standard design methods of simple Sheath are analyzed in this article. Take the straight pipe sheath, elbow sheath and tee sheath as the examples, the finite element models were established by selecting the proper material property, element type, grid and boundary conditions. According to the finite element results, the strength of straight pipe sheath, elbow sheath and tee sheath structures were analyzed. This work would support the finite element analysis to more complex structures.(3) With the Visual Basis language and the Microsoft Access database, the management system was developed, including sheath type selection, design, construction, acceptance and safety assessment. The management system includes five functions:standards look-up function, finite element analysis to sheath, structure design, construction and acceptance, case base. Five modules were adopted to achieve the above functions. (4) The typical applications in the practice were introduced, including lined sheath, glue-injected sheath and Pipeline repair. These applications will provide reference for the online leak sealing in the petrochemical industry.
