In this paper, the polypropylene as a carrier, styrene/maleic anhydride (SMA) and Styrene/maleic anhydride/isoprene copolymer (SIMA) were prepared by a reactive extrusion method. Portion of SMA was grafted on PP. With different content of styrene and maleic anhydride, the copolymer were grafted onto the polypropylene, the melt and mechanical properties of the grafts were discussed. By adding isoprene into the reaction system,we compared the performance before and after the grafting reaction, and then ionized the grafts to improve melt strength. Ionized grafts were discussed by means of infrared analysis (FTIR), the melt flow rate (MFR), tensile test and so on. Then we compared their synthesis microstructure ionomer melt properties and mechanical properties. By using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), wide angle X-ray diffraction (WXRD), TGA, we analyzed the ionomer properties and thermal stability of the melt crystallization. The study shows that by changing the amount of styrene and maleic anhydride, when the content of maleic anhydride relative to PP are less than5wt%, increasing the amount of styrene lead to improving the mechanical properties and melt strength of the grafts effectively. When the content of maleic anhydride are more than5wt%. increasing the amount of maleic anhydride lead to increasing melt flow rate obviously, increasing the amount of styrene are less affected their melt flow rates and mechanical properties. When the content of the maleic anhydride and styrene/isoprene relative to PP are6wt%, performance are best. After the ionization, the value of MFR are reduced, the modulus of elasticity and melt strength of the grafts are increased, tensile strength and elongation are at a decreasing trend. While ionization grafts are brittle and their mechanical properties decrease. DSC and WXRD show that by increasing the content of isoprene, the Tc decrease, whlie Tm increase, the Xc have no obvious variation. The physical cross-linking effect in the prepolymer are obvious, while the final crystalline ionomers influence litter. TGA show that the introduction of isoprene can effectively improve the thermal stability of the grafts; the proportion of isoprene in styrene after the ionization can improve the thermal stability of the products more. The preparation of polymer partial grafted on PP, it can be separated by the solution, and it can also be used to the modified the performance of PP, the grafts can be used as adhesive.
