China’s northwest arid region is very vulnerable area of natural ecosystems, sparse vegetation, water scarcity, the sensitive areas of ecological and environmentalproblems, human activities on land use, land cover change is very significant due touneven distribution of resources and location;disadvantage, leading to slow economicdevelopment with the double dilemma of ecological deterioration. Therefore, how tocoordinate the relationship between the arid area of economic development andecological environment construction, and promote the common development of thetwo, is an important and difficult issue. In this paper, Turpan typical of ecological environment as the starting point, theuse of remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) as a technicalsupport to study the dynamic changes of land use/cover change, in order to evaluatelanduse/cover change on the ecological environment, ecological and economicsustainable development capacity and ecological economic system coupling, summedup the the Turpan area ecological environment system and the socio-economic systemof relations, to analyze the factors that affect the ecological and economic systemcoupling, explore the Turpan arealand use/cover change and ecological coordinatedeconomic development. The results show that (1)1989and2010land use types have a lot of changes, especially land use patterns affect the ecological construction and ecologicalenvironment. Building, arable land and irrigated land, woodland, dry land and waterbodies in the past21years, land use type significantly change.1989to1999, the landuse change in the situation is relatively strong, relatively large change of forest land, building land and water, especially water, to reduce very fast, very large impact interms of the Turpan area so arid regions. In1989to2010the21-year period, arableland, water around the land, building land gradually increase, which cultivateddynamic change than the obvious rising trend of water to reduce speed also comparefast, he can be said to be a water body to reduce and arable land, the increase ofconstruction land relationship. Turpan area is already a water shortage, the impact oflarge-scale reclamation and construction of water resources in the Turpan area. Thisset of data from a whole reflects the dynamic changes of land use, two periods in1989 and2010single land use average annual rate of change is relatively large, land-usechange in the magnitude of the Turpan region, its natural conditions andsocio-economic development the results of the combined effect is closely related tothe drought conditions of the natural environment and acting human use of naturalresources, population growth, regional economic development, industrial restructuring.Capacity for sustainable development of the overall economy of the region (3) Turpanfirst a slight increase, lower middle, followed by another rising trend. Seen theeconomic indicators of the dynamic changes in the Turpan area gradually increasingtrend. Capacity of Sustainable Development the rate of change is slow, weak changesfrom1989to1999, an upward trend in2010. Be seen, the Turpan area resourceindicators steady upward trend, which reflects the status of resources and economicdevelopment coordination synchronization, a great influence on the development ofeconomic resource development and use.Ecological and environmental sustainabilityin1999than in1989dropped significantly in2010, a weak increase may reflect thelack of water resources in the Turpan area and improper use, mining and developmentefforts,Original oasis of vegetation destroyed by man, the deterioration of ecologicalenvironment. Capacity for sustainable development of the society from1989to1999,then in2010to maintain an upward trend, which reflects the Turpan area as thepopulation continues to grow, the rate of accumulation of social wealth per capitaWith the rise. Rapid industrial and agricultural development, energy minerals havebeen discovered and developed, to speed up the progress of social development.Integrated sustainable development capacity to1999than in1989dropped marginally, but also to an upward trend in2010. Because of the economy, natural resources, ecology, environmental, social, indivisible, is closely related to large-scale system. They influence each other, promote each other or to maintain the capacity forsustainable development of the Turpan region from the large-scale in terms of theco-ordinated development trend.
