Ring rolling technology is an advanced manufacturing technology of seamless ring forming, and is a combination of mechanical manufacturing technology and rolling technology. Compare to traditional free forging ring manufacturing technology, it has the technical superiorities such as high efficiency, good quality, low power and wide-range application. This technology has been widely used in many industry fields, such as heavy machine, trains, energy equipment, aeronautics and astronautics etc. Radial-axial ring rolling also is a complicated forming process with multi-factors coupling interactive effects. At present, the relative researches of radial-axial ring rolling are few, which results in that there are lack of theoretic guidelines in the actual production, and seriously restrict the further development and application of the technique.Based on the theory of radial ring rolling, the complex kinematic relations of radial-axial ring rolling were researched in this paper. The speed and acceleration expression of ring diameter increasing and rotation were obtained. Meanwhile, The feed of idle roll and axial cones were researched, the rotations of driver roll and axial cones were analyzed. And the reasonable ranges of every feed speed and rotational speed were determined. At last, by analyzing the motion track of guide roll, the displacement expression of guide roll at any time in rolling was obtained.According to the actual working principle of radial-axial ring rolling, the FE model of radial-axial large ring rolling was explored using the dynamic explicit code ABAQUS/Explicit. From the aspects of geometry dimension, material properties, contacts, boundary conditions, and meshes, according to concrete rolling parameters, the constructing course and method of FE model were introduced in detail, and the simulated result were analyzed and discussed.The kinematic behaviors of three different concave-section ring rolling were analyzed by their forming characteristics. With the FEM software ABAQUS/explicit, they were simulated respectively, the simulating model of three concave-section ring rolling were presented respectively. And the similarities of the distribution and evolution laws of stress and strain, which changed in the process of the concave-section ring rolling, were investigated.Taking radial-axial U-section ring rolling as an example, by using finite element simulation and radial-axial rolling theory analysis, the influencing laws of various rated speed of driver roll and feed speed of idle roll were researched. The study results provided useful guidelines for the design and optimization of the rolling parameters in the practical production.
