The CNC machine tool is the key equipment of the modern manufacturing. The development of the technique of CNC machine in country represent the level and competition of manufacturing. The output and quality of Chinese CNC machine tools have been improved greatly after stepping into the21st century. However, the domestic CNC machine tool industry generally ignores that the appearance design of the CNC machine tools is important as the processing capacity. In fact, the product appearance design concept is integrated into the machine tools design since the emergence of the machine tools. For the CNC machine tool industry, paying attention to the appearance of the product is not just for the pursuit of beauty but also to adapt to market changes and meet the customer requirements, finally improve the competitiveness of the machine tool products in the market.The innovative design principles for the CNC machine tool appearance design have been proposed in the paper which in line with the concept of "people-oriented". The principles include color, shape, human-machine interaction, and the green machine tool concepts. The results of the paper research are applied in designing process of CKZ20CNC lathe. And client is satisfied with The appearance design of CKZ20CNC lathe which verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of the design principles which can be a better guidance for the CNC machine tool appearance design.
