ICD completion technology is used for adjusting the influx in the borehole. It willequalize the downhole fluid flow by different ways, such as running specialized tools, usinginternal classified pressure to make multi-stage adjustment, or taking advantage of surfacecontrol devices. ICD completion technology can produce production pressure drop, increasethe friction in the borehole and reduce the influx. By all the means mentioned, ICD willbalance the internal fluid flow. The effect of ICD is the equilibrium of flow profile, delayingthe time of water cone or gas cone in horizontal wells, prolonging the production life ofhorizontal wells and the enhancement of oil recovery.In this paper, we have discussed the application of ICD in oil rim for improving theproduction performance of horizontal wells. Oil rim reservoirs are special and rich, which isvery suitable for large-scale development under the demand for oil and gas resourcesincreasing background. It is of strategic significance to ease tensions in the shortage of oiland gas resources supply. However, the structure of the oil rim is quite complex because ofthe gas cap and bottom water, so it is easy to occur gas coning and water coning in thedevelopment process.This phenomenon will result in failure to maintain stable and high yield.In view of the special problems of oil rim reservoir that is different from other types ofreservoirs, we suggested that use ICD completion technology as a new completion tool tosolve the problem.With the data of oil rim and the equalizations related to ICD completion, we design andoptimize the application of ICD in oil rim for improving the production performance ofhorizontal wells. Finally, we find that ICD is good at controlling the breakthrough of gas andwater, extending the time without oil, and at last, it can enhance oil recovery. This researchresult has directive significance to the development of completion technology of horizontalwell in oil rim in China.
