China is a country with coal as its main energy source. Seventy percent of the smoke and dust in the air and 90 percent of the sulfur dioxide emission come from burning coal. As a result, the cities with concentrated industries and populations suffer from serious air pollution. Acid rain has occurred, and the situation has gone from bad to worse in some regions and cities. Sulphur dioxide emission has been strictly controlled by the State Environmental Protection Administration because of its serious environmental pollution, which makes flue gas desulphurization an increasingly important issue.Wet limestone flue gas desulfurization technology has been widely applied in coal-fired power plants all over the world due to its high efficiency and reliability. The desulfurization efficiency of this process is above 90%. Therefore, jet bubbling reactor with limestone/lime-gypsum method is one of the fastest growing desulfurization device and process.The device of the jet bubbling reactor changed the contact mode of gas-liquid which in traditional FGD(Flue Gas Desurfurizion) System. The continuous phase is absorption liquid and the dispersed phase is gas flow. This could promote the sufficient contact between gas-liquid two-phase .and extend the residence time which the gas flow passes the absorption solution, and preferable efficiency of desulfurization is obtained. The CT-121-type JBR which developed by the Chiyoda Company of Japan were widely used in the world at present. And the desulfurization efficiency of the CT-121-type JBR is above 95%. The patented device of the single tangent ring bar sprayed bubbling gas distributing showed fine results in pilot-scale experiments which was invented by Hunan University. But there has defects of uneven distribution of airflow when the tower diameter is large enough.A jet bubbling tower was improved with pneumatic agitation for desulfurization and dust removal on the basis of the patented device of pierced cylindrical gas distribution systems. There were two gas distribution systems in the desulphurization tower, which avoid the disadvantage of uneven distribution of gas streams in the center of a tower with a large diameter of about 4 meters. The upper portion of a pneumatic agitating device was installed in the circular channel of the tower and was driven by the air stream passing through the channel. Results showed that the absorption tower distributed gas streams far more even and that the gas, liquid and solid phases in the tower were agitated and contacted more intensively. The efficiency of dust removal achieved 95%. The desulfurization efficiency was stably higher than 97% when the pH of the absorption solution for desulfurization slurry was higher than 5.
