There are many rivers in China, and the confluences of main and tributarystreams are very common, especially in the mountainous and hilly regions. However,the anti-sliding stabilities at different parts in the embankments near the confluenceare different for that the water level fluctuations caused by different floods. Therefore,it is very important to make clear the stabilities at different parts in the embankmentsnear the confluence during water level fluctuations, not only for adopting costeffective engineering measurements during reinforcements, but also for protecting thelife and properties of people nearby.The main research contents are as following.(1)The research significance is expressed based on the status of embankmentsconstruction and harnessing river basin in China. Then the research current conditionsare summarized on the water flow near the confluence and bank slopes stabilities.Finally, the main contents are introduced.(2)Taking the Shuangjiangkou confluence dike section in Gaodenghe river basinfor example, the law of water level fluctuation by different flood causes is studied byhydraulics. Through calculation the water level in mainstream, tributary, confluenceunder different conditions, the influences for water level on mainstream, tributary,confluence caused by mainstream coming water and the tributaries coming water arestudied, and the water level fluctuation relationships and the water level fluctuationvalues are certainly obtained nearby the Shuangjiangkou confluence.(3)Considering the main analysis tasks and stability factors required, the relatedtheory and analysis procedure are described with the two modules SEEP/W andSLOPE/W of the numerical simulation software GEO-Studio. The effect withdifferent outflow boundary conditions on seepage field is studied.(4)Based on the software GEO-Studio, the stabilities of seepage and anti-slidingare analyzed for the Shuangjiangkou confluence dike section in Gaodenghe riverbasin during different water level fluctuations, and the most dangerous locations aredetermined with the calculation results, which provide the strong supports foradopting cost effective reinforcements schemeThis thesis is supported by the Research Fund for the Doctoral Program ofHigher Education”3d hp composite element method to simulate progressive failure for slopes during water level changes(20104316120003)”and the Department ofWater Resources of Hunan Province”Research on simulation and waring for thedestabilization process of slope based on composite element method.”.The researchesabove have a great significance for reference to evaluate the safety and to harnessother similar embankments nearby the confluence of main and tributary stream.
