As the foundation and prerequisite for achieving low-carbon electricity, smart grid technology has become the trend of grid’s development. Smart substation is an important part of the strong and smart grid, which undertakes the collection of grid data source and the scientific policy-making functions.As the core element of the substation construction, smart substation communication network has important practical significance for the safe and reliable operation of the smart grid. The GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) in IEC61850standard is a mechanism used to meet the needs of fast packet in substation automation system. As one of the core parts of the system, GOOSE network plays an important role in the function of the smart substation.Firstly, this paper gave a brief introduction to the development background and current situation of the IEC61850standard, especially for the core idea of the standards in detail, such as Object-oriented modeling, Abstract Communication Service Interface (ACSI), Specific Communication Service Mapping(SCSM) and Substation Configuration description Language (SCL).Secondly, this paper gave a detailed definition and mapping of the GOOSE model and its message. By using special software to simulate the GOOSE message sending on the computer, this paper extracted and analyzed the contents of the packets. According to the timeliness requirements of the GOOSE network, the paper compared the advantages and disadvantages of several different network topology, then formulated the principle of GOOSE network division by VLAN technology.Finally, combined with the instance of the Xiaojin220kV intelligent substation project in Aba, the paper made a overall design for substation automation system. The same time, the paper analyzed the process of GOOSE network division by VLAN technology, and selected a feeder bay to make a description on SCL and virtual terminal connection diagram based on the GOOSE.
