| Objective: To observe the effect and safety of tetracycline and furazolidonequadruple therapy as rescue treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection. The aim is tofind out an effective, safe and inexpensive rescue therapy for patients with H.pyloriinfection.Methods: A total of64Helicobacter pylori-infected patients with peptic ulcer orchronic gastritis failed in previous treatment were enrolled and randomized dividedinto2groups: Patients in Group A (Quadruple therapy) received esomeprazole20mgtwice a day, colloidal bismuth pectin150mg four times a day, tetracycline0.5g threetimes a day and furazolidone0.1g three times a day for14daysï¼›Patients in GroupB(Triple therapy) received esomeprazole20mg twice a day, amoxicillin1.0g twice aday and moxifloxacin0.4g once a day for10days. The adverse effects and control ofclinical symptoms were recorded during the course of treatment. After finishing ofH.pylori therapy at least four weeks later, The H.pylori status, ulcer healing, clinicalsymptoms and side-effects among two groups were compared by inquiry, rapid ureasetest (RUT) or13C-urea breath test (UBT), and two regimens were evaluated by costeffectiveness analysis. Results: In all64patients,57patients completed the whole therapy,7patientsfailed to return for follow-up.1. The H.pylori eradication rates were74.2%(23/31) and85.2%(23/27) withquadruple therapy, and66.7%(22/33) and73.3%(22/30) with triple therapy byintention-to-treat (ITT) analysis and per-protocol (PP) analysis. No significantdifference in both ITT and PP eradication rates were found between two groups (bothP>0.05).2. The peptic ulcer healing rates, the incidence of adverse reactions and theclinical symptom remission rates were not different significantly (both P>0.05) 3. The cost effectiveness analysis showed that the cost and cost-effectivenessratio (C/E) of quadruple therapy were lower than triple therapy.Conclusion:1. The quadruple therapy with tetracycline and furazolidone is an effectiverescue therapy for H.pylori infection.2. The quadruple therapy with tetracycline and furazolidone is moreinexpensive than moxifloxacin-based triple therapy. According to the conditions ofour country, the quadruple therapy is an ideal regimen. |
