Object i vesTo investigate the distribution of Candida species in patients with vul-vovaginal candidiasis(VVC) and recurrent vulvovaginal candidasis (RVVC);To preliminarily determine the range of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Xianglian Lotion against30isolates of C. glabrata and contrast the result with Fluconazole, in order to lay the foundation for further research to explore the mechanisms of Xianglian Lotion’s antifungal effect on Candida glabrata.MethodsA total of312vaginal swabs were collected at the gynaecology and der-matology out-patient clinics of Guangdong Hospital of TCM from patients with VVC and RVVC. The swab sticks were streaked onto Sabourand Dextrose ager, in order to separate and purify Candida;Candida species were confirmed by using the chromogenic medium CHROMagar and API20C AUX yeast identification kit (bioMerieux);then, we measured the MICs of both Fluconazole and Xianglian lotion against30isolates of C.glabrata by broth microdilution method according to M27-A3document published by Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) of America.Result1. Of all the312isolates,286were in VVC group and26were in RVVC group. C. albicans had the highest occurrence with214(74.8%) in VVC group and18(69.2%) in RVVC group, followed by C. glabrata with24(8.39%) in VVC group and6(23.07%) in RVVC group. The ratio of C. glabrata in RVVC group was signicantly higher than that in VVC group (x2=4.35, P=0.037).2. For Fluconazole,12(40.0%) isolates of C. glabrata were sensitive,15(50.0%) were susceptible to becoming dose dependent, and3(10.0%) were re- sistant; in other words,60.0%of C.glabrata were not sensitive to Flucon-azole.3.The MIC range of Xianglian Lotion against30C. glabrata isolates were3.78+3.21mg/ml. Besides, Xianglian Lotion had the same antifungal effect on Fluconazole-resistant isolates as Fluconazole-sensitive isolates.Conclusion1.The distribution of Candida species in VVC and RVVC are different, the ratio of C. glabrata are significantly higher in RVVC, suggesting that we need to pay more attention to C. glabrata during the treatment of RVVC.2. Drug-sensitive test shows that the sensitivity of C. glabrata isolates to Fluconazole is low, and Xianglian Lotion has remarkable anti-fungal effect against C. glabrata within a certain range of concentrations;Xianglian Lotion may have different antifungal mechanisms from Fluconazole.
