Objective To observe pathological change of parotid gland injury of radiated rats and establish an animal model by which study on the parotid gland radiation injuries. Methods Twenty adult Wistar rats were chosen as laboratory animals, which was Divided into two groups:Experimental group (15) and control group (5). The right parotid glands of experimental group were irradiated with40Gy on the right parotid gland through linear accelerator to establish the parotid gland radiation injuries. The anthers5were not irradiated as control group. Twenty eight days after the irradiation, the pathology changes of the radiated parotid gland of the twenty adult Wistar rats were tested under light microscope. Results No abnormal neural behaviors and physical sign physical were found in experimental group after radiation injury. In experimental group the salivary gland and glandular lobule and blood capillaries showed typical radiation injury. The capillary density in experimental group was significantly lower than that of control group. Conclusion:We have successfully simulated the pathological change of parotid gland after irradiation by using the irradiation dose of40Gy by linear accelerator radioactive source on rat.
