Objective:Quantitative measurement of mechanical parameters were perfermed, using VVI technology on patients’carotid artery elasticity who were in acute stage and recovery stage of cerebral infarction. Found a new technology, which could early quantitatively measure the vessel’s elasticity, in early acute stage of cerebral infarction. Helping clinic set up a promising indicator and early-warning to patients in acute stage of cerebral infarction, and a reliable image basis in predicting the recurrence for patients in recovery stage of cerebral infarction as well.Methods:1. Sixty patients were selected.20patients were in acute stage of cerebral infarction and20patients were in recovery stage of cerebral infarction, and the control group contained20normal people.2. Totally sixty patients were examined with Color Doppler Ultrasound in common carotid mean intima-media thickness (IMT)、the internal carotid artery end-systolic diameter (Ds)、peak systolic velocity (PSV)、end-diastolic blood flow velocity (EDV、Resistance index (RI), and were measured with VVI technology in maximum strain (Smax) and maximum strain rate (SRmax) of the internal carotid artery wall in short axis image.3.To observe the VVI picture of internal carotid artery wall and to quantitatively analysis maximum strain (Smax) and maximum strain rate (SRmax) of internal carotid artery.4. To analysis the characteristics of patients’mechanical parameters in three groups.Results:1. Comparing with the control group, the two dimension vector diagram of acute cerebral infarction group showed that inner membrane movement was chaos and asynchronous. The color anatomic M-mode showed.a single color on the internal carotid artery’s inner membrane in short axis image. The strain and strain rate imaging of the acute cerebral infarction group were constant and regular.2. Smax and SRmax in reference counterparts showed no significant difference in three intragroups (p>0.05).3. Comparison among groups:The Smax and SRmax in cerebral infarction groups and control group showed statistically different. The Smax and SRmax of walls were remarkably less in the subjects of recovery stage of cerebral infarction group than those in the subjects of control group(p<0.05). And the acute stage of cerebral infarction group were remarkably less than control group(p<0.05).While it had no significant difference in the subjects of cerebral infarction among the acute stage and the recovery stage. Conclusion:The Smax and SRmax of internal carotid artery were significantly less in the subjects of acute stage of cerebral infarction group than those in the subjects of control group. VVI is an effective technique for evaluating Smax and SRmax in internal carotid artery wall, providing more elasticity information about internal carotid artery wall for patients in acute stage of cerebral infarction. Therefore, the novel method allows the early detection and warning for internal carotid artery elasticity change in acute stage of cerebral infarction, from which an early clinical intervention could be made. In addition, it could be a promising index in predicting the recurrence for patients in recovery stage of cerebral infarction.
