Objective:To investigate the behavior problems and factors between different genders of preschool children in Changsha and to determine which norm is more suitable for Chinese children by comparing the norm of Conners Parent Symptom Questionnaire(PSQ) in China with that in America.Methods:A total of854children aged3to5years were randomly sampled from5districts in Changsha and their parents completed the PSQ and the factors questionnaire respectively.Results:l.The assessment by the norm of PSQ in America demonstrated that the prevalence of behavior problems was20.4%, in which28.1%for boys and12.4%for girls(P<0.01), and there was no differences among age groups(P>0.05). To each of six factors, the prevalence of learning problem, psychosomatic problem and restlessness index in boys were higher than that in girls(P<0.05).2.The factors infulencing behavior of boys were feeding patterns, bottle feeding, the appetite, diseases in pregnancy, postpartum mood, relationship between parents, mother’s emotion, educational attitudes, educational patterns, changes of caregiver, father sleep talking, mother sleep talking, restless sleep of child; while the girls influencing factors contained attending special skill training class, night sleep duration, playing games before go to sleep, the mood before sleeping, history of having colds, illnesses in last year of child, whether eating regularly, relationship between parents, mother’s emotion, postpartum mood, preterm birth.3.The prevalence of conduct problems, impulse-restlessness, restlessness index and anxiety and learning problem of the girls detected by the norm of PSQ in Chinese urban children were higher than detected by the American norm. The prevalence of learning problems and psychosomatic problems in boys by the norm of PSQ in Chinese urban children was significantly lower than those detected by the American norm, while the total prevalence of behavior problems was higher than that detected by American norm. There was a poor consistency in most factors of the PSQ and the total prevalence of behavior problems between the norms of China and America(Kappa<0.4).Conclusions:The prevalence of behavior problems especially learning problems and psychosomatic problems of preschool children in Changsha is higher.There was difference in gender about factors of behavior problems.The consistency of assessment results is poor between the norms of China and America.
