The Comparative Study Of The Effect On Primary Trigeminal Neuralgia Between Microvascular Decompression And Gamma Knife Surgery

【Objective】To make a comparation of the validity and safety on primarytrigeminal neuralgia between Microvascular decompression (MVD) and GammaKnife surgery(GSK).【Method】Follow-up visit was conducted among the50patient sufferingPIN, which have ever been treated in the first affiliated hospital of GuangxiMedical university. There were23patients in the MVD group, and27patientsin the GSK group. Then statistic analysis was made respectively in theeffectiveness, complication and recurrence.【Result】46patients in total were followed up for10to70months,21inMVD group and25in GSK group. The two group have statistically significantdifference in the grade of pain relief(P=0.021) and in the cure rate(p=0.021). The difference was not statistically significant in the total effectiveness，thoughthe MVD group’s was higher than the GKS group’s. Both the effectivenesswithin1month(P=0) and within3month (P=0.028)have statistic significance.There are no statistically significant effects when the follow-up was made by thetime within half a year (P=0.162),within1year(P=0.457) and that we followedup the last time(P=0.732).The difference was not statistically significant in thecomplication (P>0.05) and recurrence rate（P=0.457）.【Conclusion】While both MVD and GSK can relieve the pain of PＴN, MVD has its advantage over GSK in the cure rate and the short view.However, there is no significant difference taking a long view. Generally, MVDis a priority for The majority of patients, meanwhile，GSK may be a wise choosefor the aged with bad physical condition or people who can’t tolerate surgery oranesthesia，Or to comply with the patient’s choice.
