Objective:To study the expression of Ki-67and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in borderline ovarian tumors(BOT) and its clinical significance.Methods:Immunohistochemistry test (ElivisionTM plusmethods) was used to detect the expression of Ki-67and VEGF in38cases of BOT, compared to30cases benign ovarian tumors and30cases epithelial ovarian cancer. The expression changes of Ki-67and VEGF protein in the formation of epithelial ovarian tumors and the relationship between the clinical features and pathological features were analyzed.Results: Positive rates of Ki-67in benign ovarian tumors, BOT and epithelial ovarian cancer werel0.0%、42.1%、83.3%,The expression of Ki-67protein in epithelial ovarian cancer group was significantly higher than that in BOT group and benign ovarian tumors group (P<0.05),the expression in BOT group was higher than benign ovarian tumors group (P<0.05), Expressions of Ki-67in benign ovarian tumors, BOT and epithelial ovarian cancer were gradually increased (P<0.01). Positive rates of Ki-67in serous borderline ovarian tumor and mucinous borderline ovarian tumor were41.2%和42.9%. There was no significant difference between serous borderline ovarian tumor and mucinous borderline ovarian tumor.The expression of Ki-67did not correlate to pathological type (P>0.05). Ki-67expression in BOT had little relationship to clinical stage of BOT, age,CA125and the size of the ovarian tumor. Positive rates of VEGF in benign ovarian tumors, BOT and epithelial ovarian cancer were20.0%52.6%、86.7%, The expression of VEGF protein in epithelial ovarian cancer group was significantly higher than that in BOT group and benign ovarian tumors group (P<0.05),the expression in BOT group was higher than benign ovarian tumors group (P<0.05).Expressions of VEGF in benign ovarian tumors, BOT and epithelial ovarian cancer were gradually increased (P<0.01). Positive rates of VEGF in serous borderline ovarian tumor and mucinous borderline ovarian tumor were47.1%和57.1%. There was no significant difference between serous borderline ovarian tumor and mucinous borderline ovarian tumor. The expression of VEGF did not correlate to pathological type (P>0.05)..Ki-67expression in BOT had little relationship to clinical stage of BOT, age,CA125and the size of the ovarian tumor. The expression of Ki-67was increased with the increment of VEGF expression.Conclusion:1. Expressions of Ki-67in benign ovarian tumors, BOT and epithelial ovarian cancer were gradually increased.2. Expressions of VEGF in benign ovarian tumors, BOT and epithelial ovarian cancer were gradually increased.3. Ki-67and VEGF expression may play an important role in the development and progression of epithelial ovarian tumors.4. Combined detection with Ki-67and VEGF may be a valuable marker for prediction of tumor progression and managements of ovarian tumors.
