| Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of PCIA in the control of bladder spasm and micturitional symptoms of unstable bladder during the early stage after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Methods:This was a retrospective, randomized controlled trial. Ninty-two patients who underwent TURP for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia were randomly divided into PCIA group and control group. PCIA group patients received PCIA after TURP, control group patients didn’t receive PCIA. Results:The symptoms score, the number of bladder spasm episodes duration of bladder spasm, the time of bladder perfusion clearance, indwelling catheter delivery in PCIA group reduced significantly as compared with control group. After removal of catheter, the number of voids per day, mean urine volume per day, number of incontinent episodes in PCIA group improved significantly as compared with control group. The rate of to feel sick was25%for PCIA group4.5%for control group. Conclusion: PCIA is effective and well tolerated in the prevention and treatment of postoperative bladder spasm. PCIA could also significantly alleviates early irritative symptoms after TURP. |
