Objectives:To analyse the influence of Compound Xueshuantong Capsule on the viaual acuity and the macular foveal retinal thickness.To evaluate the visual prognosis of Compound Xueshuantong Capsule on the patients after operated pars plana vitrectomy(PPV) due to posterior segment intraocular foreign body.Methods:1. There were37cases (38eyes) suffered from intraocular foreign body after ocular injury during January2011to January2012. All cases were hospitalized in the Department of Ophthalmology of Fuzhou General Hospital and devided into two groups at random:19cases (20eyes) were included in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) group and another18cases (18eyes) in control group. Both groups were treated by PPV and all intraocular foreign body were taken out of from eyeball. Both groups were treated by western medicine topically and systemically.However, Compound Xueshuantong Capsule was applied in additional after operation on TCM group.2. To observe the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) and measure the macular foveal retinal thickness by means of OCT(optical coherence tomography)1day,2weeks and2months after PPV operation.3. All data were tested by the statistical methods of T test, chi-square test, rank sum test and rank correlation analysis by SPSS13.0. P<0.05means statistical difference.Results:1. Univariate analysis:There was no difference in sex, age, duration before surgery and other factors such as traumatic cataract, secondary retinal detachment between two groups (P>0.05).2. Best correct visual acuity comparison:The BCVA of2-week-post-operation was better than pre-operation in TCM group (P<0.05).And there was statistical difference between pre-operation and2-week-post-operation in TCM group but no difference in the control group(P>0.05).There was no statistical difference in BCVA2-week-post-operation between two groups(P>0.05). The BCVA of2-month-post-operation was much better than that of pre-operation in both groups(P<0.05).However, TCM group in BCVA of2-month-post-operation was superior to the control group and there was statistical difference between two groups(P<0.05).3. Macular foveal retinal thickness comparison:The macular foveal retinal thickness of2-week-post-operation was superior to that of1-day-post-operation in both groups (P<0.05,statistically different).But there was no statistical difference in macular foveal retinal thickness2weeks after operation between TCM and control groups(P>0.05). The macular foveal retinal thickness of2-month-post-operation was superior to that of1-day-post-operation in both groups(P <0.05,statistically different), and there was statistical difference in macular foveal retinal thickness2months after operation between TCM and control groups (P<0.05).4. Correlation analysis:The BCVA was negative correlation with macular foveal retinal thickness2weeks (r=-0.800, P<0.05) and2months (r=-0.784, P<0.05) after the surgery respectively.Conclusion:Compound Xueshuantong capsule could lessen the macular edema and improve the visual outcome for the patients after operated PPV due to posterior segment intraocular foreign body.
