| Objectives:To elucidate the impact of Neulen Titanium Plates in Cervical laminoplasty on long term outcomes postoperatively. Study Design:A retrospective radio graphic and clinical reviews. Methods:Between January2012to December2012,26cases of cervical spinal stenosis underwent single open-door Nuelen Titanium plate fixation laminoplasty. Out of these26cases,15were males and11were females, with a mean age of62years (range35-81). Preoperative CT and MRI showed the16patients had multiple segmental disc herniations along with the complication of ligamentum flavum hypertrophy and10patients were suffering from ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament. Postoperative computed tomography (CT) scans at1st week,3rd month and6th month of all patients formed the basis of this study. In all cases, round cutting burs were used to create the hinge at the junction of the lateral mass and lamina. Neulen Titanium plates and screws played the only role of internal fixation during the operation.5Neulen Titanium plates have been fixed in16cases in continual segments as well as4plates in7cases, however in3cases; plates were intermittently used at only C3, C5, and C7. The overall recovery of the hinge was determined by combining the status of the dorsal and ventral cortices. Both the ventral and dorsal cortices must be bridged with bone to be considered healed. We evaluated the bony healing and complications of Neulen Titanium plates. Results:Post operative computed tomography (CT) scans illustrates low spinal cord injury and other complications. CT scans from117levels at3months and69levels at6months were available. CT review demonstrated that68.4%of levels were healed at3months and85.5%at6months. Neulen Titanium plates Laminoplasty provided stable reconstruction of an expanded laminar arch with no failures, displacements, adverse neurologic consequences or premature closures at all levels. And three segments, ventral and dorsal cortices were not bridged did not heal but they maintained patent expansion of the spinal canal. Conclusions:As a new improved plate, Neulen Titanium plates provided stable laminar arch of the spinal canal, omits the premature closures and reflects early promotion of hinge union. Hinge union by the addition of Neulen Titanium plates can maintain patent expansion of the spinal canal. |
