Objective:To analyze the efficacy and prognostic factors of three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for Non-surgical treatment of patients with esophageal cancer. Methods:From Jan,2007to May,2012,133Non-surgical treatment of patients with esophageal cancer were treated by3DCRT and IMRT in our hospital. Survival rate was estimated by using Kaplan-Meier method. The prognostic factors were analyzed using univariate (Log rank) and multivariate (Cox model) analysis methods.Result:As of March2013, the follow-up rate was98%, The1,2,3,4,5-years following-up number were109,36,17,4and3patients, respectively. The median survival time of the patients with esophageal cancer was17months, the overall response rate was85.7%and the1,3,5-year overall survival rates were82.7%,27.7%,13.6%. The median survival time in patients with radiotherapy alone and with concurrent chemoradiotherapy were15months and18months; and1,3,5-year overall survival rates were74.0%,24.0%,0; and91.7%,33.1%,25.4%. Univariate analysis showed that Karnofsky Performance Scale score, tumour length, clinical stage, hemoglobin content, swallow embarrassment before treatment, concurrent chemotherapy were prognostic factors for the survival. Cox multivariate analysis showed that the tumour length, clinical stage were confirmed as independent prognostic factors. Conclusion:Conformal radiation therapy is effective for esophageal cancer in terms of survival. Compared to radiotherapy alone, the overall survival rate of concurrent chemoradiotherapy Were improved significantly, and the tumour length, clinical stage were confirmed as independent prognostic factors.
