| Objective:To analyze the experience in diagnosis and treatment of cryptococcus meningitis from AIDS and discuss the clinical characteristics.Methods:A medical records about cryptococcus meningitis from AIDS was analyzed retrospectively and the literature was reviewed.Design:Case report.Patient:The patient had a headache and dizziness one week before admission, and felt feverish with nausea and vomiting three days before admission. HIV antibody was positive. Meanwhile, lumbar puncture showed:cerebrospinal fluid pressure increased significantly, and a large number of cryptococcus had been investigated.Intervention:The patient was given antifungal therapy, supplemented by reducing intracranial pressure, nerve nutrition, antiemetic and symptomatic treatment.Results:At last, the patient was death because of the lack of effective control of intracranial pressure.Conclusions:For cryptococcus meningitis from AIDS associated with increased intracranial pressure significantly, patients should be given to antifungal treatment, reducing intracranial pressure, highly active anti-retroviral therapy and nutritional support treatment. Early and adequate antifungal therapy which can effectively remove the body of pathogenic bacteria and control the disease should be the emphasis. When the patient’s condition is stabilized, it is timely to carry out highly active anti-retroviral therapy to try and improve the prognosis of patients. |
