Two possible reasons are:First, we need to establish a clear distinction between Gothic art and Renaissance art;we also need to clarify the relationship between Italian art and Nordic arts, especiallythe early Dutch painting. Since it is easy to find differences between Gothic andRomanesque style, we begin with the relationship between Gothic art and Renaissanceart solve some contradictions between these two styles existing during these periods. This study further enables us to get a clear view of Italian art in the14thcentury, and toascertain the relationship between artists of Northern of Europe–from Jan van Eyck toHieronymus Bosch–Italian art in the14thcentury.
