The status-quo of the translation studies has demonstrated that most of studies arestill on a static description of the products of the translation from pure linguistic or cultureperspective. Little attention has been paid to the translation process studies, especially themental activities of translators in this process. But translation practice has illustrated thatthe quality of translations relies on translators’ psycho-cognitive factors in translating.Therefore, it is highly necessary to explore the psycho-cognitive activities of translators inthe whole translating process.Based on the previous studies of translation process, the author of this thesis aims atexploring the psycho-cognitive process in translating with the theories of Schema andConceptual Blending in psychological and cognitive fields. Through the analysis of thepsycho-cognitive activity of translators in the whole process, the author points out thattranslating is a highly complex psycho-cognitive process and the quality of translationsdepends on the psycho-cognitive performances of translators in translating. Besides,based on the detailed analysis in Chapter IV, the author has proposed a tentativepsycho-cognitive model in Chapter V and investigated its enlightenment on translationswith some concrete examples from different text types, hoping to provide some benefitsfor the whole translation practice and for the improvement of the translation quality.
