This paper based on the Second Language Acquisition Theory, Inter-languageAcquisition Theory, Error Analysis Theory and Contrastive Analysis Theory. By usingqualitative research and quantitative research methods, adopting the complementarymethod of written natural corpus analysis through the Inter-language written corpusof College of Chinese Language and Culture, Jinan University and the testing corpusby the middle and high level foreign students who are studying in the College ofInternational Culture Exchange,Hainan Normal University. The paper studies themiddle and high level foreign students’ acquisition of Chinese compound directionalcomplements’ state extended meaning extensional use of “xialai, xiaqu and qilai”,aiming to explore the development of their acquisition of these grammar items.Finally, the paper investigate the error reasons from the students’ mother languageand the negative migration of the target language, the learning strategies of avoidingand substitute and the teaching material factors aiming to four types error in theacquisition process among middle and high level overseas students. And on this basis,we raise some effective teaching suggestions, hoping that can help the development ofChinese compound directional complements teaching.
