Reference cohesion (RC) plays an important role in discourse. Even in thehigh-grade stage, the overseas students often have inaccuracy and errors. This paperdescribes their usage of RC, analyzes the error types and gives the correspondingteaching strategies.The first chapter mainly introduces the background and the significances of thispaper, and the relevant research work of writing this paper. This chapter alsosummarizes the predecessors’ research results from the aspect of the RC’s noumenonresearch and the errors research.The second chapter collects some numbers of the corpus from the Inter-LanguageCorpus and makes the statistical analysis of the overseas students’ application of theRC in the discourse.The third chapter divides the errors into five types on the basis of corpus collectedfrom the Inter-language corpus and the former chapter, and then concludes thereasons of errors.The forth chapter brings forward the corresponding teaching strategies on thebasis of the statistics above from the textbooks and the teachers.This paper investigates the overseas students’ application and errors of the RC indiscourse. During the process, this paper insists on the principle of combining thequalitative analysis with quantitative analysis, when making the data statistics of theapplication and the errors, in order to enhance the scientificity of the research. At last,this paper offers the corresponding teaching strategies on basis of the analysis oferrors.
