The July School was born in the1930s, the flaming and smoking years of war.Lu Ling is the leading writer of the July School and a thread of deep tragic spiritalways winds through his novel creation. This thesis mainly explores his works offiction in the1940s from the perspective of tragedy so that we can reveal the tragicspirit and the fight consciousness, as well as the people’s existing situations and thedepth of their psychology reflected in the novels.This thesis consists of five parts, each part of the paper focuses on the followingcontents.Introduction first on the Lu Ling novel creation overview, then the authordiscusses the present research situation, finally explained the purpose, the train ofthought and the significance of this research.The first chapter is divided into two sections. At the beginning, it focuses on thedefinition of "tragedy" and "tragic spirit". Then, it argues on ideological connotationsof tragic spirit in Lu Ling’s novels respectively from the popular sentimental moodand the individual fight consciousness against his fate.The second chapter consists of three sections. The first section sketches themiserable adventures of his mind by discussing the sufferings from his family and thesociety during his growth. The second section deals with the influences of Hu Feng’sliterary theory on his novel creation. The last section discusses the influences ofcultural spirit from the western and Chinese tragedy. Thus, through the three sectionsit reveals the reasons why tragic spirit in his novels is so amazing and so moving.The third chapter is divided into two sections. In this chapter, it mainly exploresthe aesthetic value of Lu Ling’s novels. Then we argue tragic spirit in Lu’s novels onthe significance in Chinese literature history.In conclusion, it summarizes the three chapters and points out that the specialsignificance and unique value of Lu Ling’s works and tragic spirit in his works in thedevelopment of the contemporary and modern Chinese literature.
