On Factors That Dominate Chinese-English Translation Qualify Based On The Skopos Theory Illustrated By Xiushan Agriculture Materials Translation Project

The Skopos Theory provides a powerful theoretical support behind theChinese-English translation activities. In the process of producing excellenttranslated versions, Chinese-English translators should take full advantage of theirsubjectivity which is primarily based on the skopos of Chinese-English Translationactivities, while taking into account acceptability of translated versions. Acompetent translator himself should, along the whole translation course, bear inmind a multi-dimensional assessment strategy, ranging from the grammaticaldimension to the cultural dimension, in hopes that his or her translated versionswould never fail the skopos of the original as well as every scrutinizing eye.This report, here based on first-hand examples selected from Xiushanagriculture materials, makes an attempt to explore the factors dominatingChinese-English translation quality and tries to cast light on the multi-dimensionalassessment strategy based on the Skopos Theory.The main contents of this report are divided into four parts: Part One is thetranslation project description, including project background and significance; PartTwo is the main contents of the source text, linguistic features of the source text; atop-down translation thinking is employed in Part Three, where Chinese-Englishtranslation quality dominating factors-a multi-dimensional translation assessmentstrategy-are discussed and little room is, however, left for the discussion onseparate translating methods; Part Four concludes with the lessons, implication andunsolved problems in the translation project.
