Listening and speaking teaching is a vital part in college English teaching. Improving students’listening and speaking abilities is the chief objective of college English teaching. However, English teaching model in the past decades was teacher-centered, which not only ignored students’individual differences, but also neglected the importance of improving students’listening and speaking abilities. That’s why dumb and deaf English was quite common among the students. It was not until1990s that multimedia and internet technology were widely used and brought great convenience to college English listening and speaking teaching. Although multimedia teaching has improved students’listening and speaking to some extent, its disadvantages are highlighted increasingly with the progression of teaching reform. More and more scholars have realized that only by combining the traditional teaching and web-based multimedia teaching can English listening and speaking achieve the best results.Blended Learning is a kind of learning model combining traditional classroom learning and E-learning, which integrates the advantages and compensates for the shortcomings of the two models. It not only respects students’role as the main body of learning but also plays teachers’role as guides and supervisors into full play. This model accords with the teaching model presented in College English Curriculum Requirement issued by the Education Ministry in2007and is significant for the implementation and reform of college English teaching.Based on the previous studies both abroad and in China, this study attempts to outline a framework of Blended Learning model in college English listening and speaking teaching and explore its effectiveness in teaching practice, so as to seek a scientific and efficient teaching model to supply a reference for the further development and improvement of college English listening and speaking teaching. The author conducted a four-month experiment among76non-English freshmen from Ilubei Polytechnic University, attempting to answer the following questions:1. What is students’attitude towards Blended Learning?2. Can Blended Learning improve students’listening and speaking abilities? 3. Will teacher’s supervision affect students’learning results under Blended Learning model? At the beginning of this study, a questionnaire to survey students’access to computers and their evaluation to their current listening and speaking abilities is conducted to make sure of the feasibility of the experiment. When Blended Learning model is implemented, students’attitude towards Blended Learning is surveyed through a questionnaire and interview. Tests are taken to prove weather Blended Learning improves students’listening and speaking and weather teacher’s supervision has an effect on students’learning results. At the end of the experiment, the author summarizes the information got from interviews and use Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS, version19.0) to analyze the data collected from questionnaires and tests. After analyzing and discussing, the author draws the following conclusions:Students’convenient access to computers and internet provides a feasible condition for the implementation of Blended Learning. Their dissatisfaction towards current listening and speaking abilities and their desire to improve listening and speaking with the help of computer-based teaching facilities proves the necessity to apply Blended Learning in college English listening and speaking teaching. Blended Learning model is helpful to improve students’listening and speaking. Its advantages are recognized by the students who think autonomous learning ability is the main factor affecting their learning. As the supervisor and guide of the learning, teachers should try every means to arouse students’autonomous learning awareness so as to improve their learning outcomes. The study shows that Blended Learning is a good way to improve dissatisfactory English listening and speaking teaching. The study on the application of Blended Learning has an important referential value and practical significance for the active development of college English listening and speaking teaching.
