Influence Of "Learn From Nature" On Contemporary Interior Design

Interior Design plays a decisive role in human settlement, in the era of today’s high-tech, fast-paced life, people are facing earth energy exhaustion and environment deteriating situation. Under various mental and physical pressures, many people are fallen into the physical state of subhealth due to improper settlement. Therefore, it is of viatal importance to improve the human settlement, especially close attention must be paid to settlement related interior design. Interior design is most closely, most directly and most importantly related with people’s daily life, so it is worthy for our attention and study to the improvement of interior design.The domestic interior design industry is developing rapidly whereas the design theory is not perfect. Furthermore, development direction was lost by many interior designers, many works are like water without sources, tree without roots. Under the persuasion of the international style, some designers are apted to abandon the tradition with no understanding and absorbing foreign culture, lead to the work only a sheer copy. These works which are without grade caused to some extent China’s lack of design culture.Suzhou garden has become a world model of the gardens, mostly relying on its design and the conception of gardening ideas, especially among them the philosophy of’ learn from nature"." Learn from nature" by Laozi’s philosophy "human after earth, earth after heaven, heaven after principle(TAO), principle(TAO) after nature", Suzhou garden is a well application of this philosophy, built according to the geographical environment and the owner’s psychological needs, to create a harmonious realm of art everywhere when embodies the natural landscape concept.Through the presenting and analysis of the interior design development both home and abroad, it is shown in the paper that," nature " concept has already begun to be accepted by the design community, and is with a wide development potential. The majority of designers will apply " learn from nature" into the design, mainly reflected in the interior landscape construction and the use of natural materials. In this paper it is also points out that to apply " the nature" to the design should not only stay in the visual surface," learn from nature" should include the human being, human nature, life rule and etc, and the nature refers to man itself. The author hopes that this study is conducive to the better development of interior design in the future, the majority of Chinese interior designer can practise "learn from nature"," the unity of heaven and man" in the traditional concept, carry forward thousand year,s traditions and seeking interior design rich of Chinese elements and Chinese culture..
