| In this thesis, I used Fang Fang’s novel as the main object of study. Throughin-depth text analysis and with the basis of narrative theory, I have explored FangFang’s narrative techniques and the significance derived from these techniques. I haveclassified and sorted out Fang Fang’s writing skills and strategies in her novels. I havealso further explored and summarized the meanings which reflect the cultural heritageand deep awareness.The main body of the thesis is divided into four parts:(1) the narrative timingcharacteristics of Fang Fang’s novels.(2) The narrative perspective features in FangFang’s novels,(3) the features of Fang Fang’s novel writing skills in focus of thecharacter objects, and (4) Fang Fang’s popularized narrative characteristics in hernovels.In the first part “the narrative timing characteristics of Fang Fang’s novelsâ€,Fang Fang carefully arranges narrative timing in her novels to reflect her uniquestructural narrative features, which she emphasizes much on emotional lyrical andaesthetic pursuits, but much less on plot narration. Fang Fang employs extensively the“past→present→past†cycle mode in her novels. This particular emphasis on thecontrast between the two (pass&present) forms certain contrasts and echoes,expressing her unique thinking of the relationship between time and life. In addition,the time rhythm with a combination of fast and slow speeds can be found everywherein Fang Fang’s novels. Artificially speeding up the scene description and slowingdown the psychological narration can help to show the complex inner world of thecharacters, and can also play an essential role in shaping the atmosphere and theemotional renderingThe second part " the narrative perspective features in Fang Fang’s novels,"shows that the selection of the proper perspective narrative technique can undoubtedlyplay an important role to highlight the theme and keynote. Different perspectiveselection may bring the readers different emotional experience. In some autobiographical novels, Fang Fang tends to choose the limit-to-know perspectivewith stronger “realistic feelings†To comprehensively analyze how objective andsubjective factors impact on the characters and plots, Fang Fang shows her favor inlimit-to-fully-know or omniscient perspective. When there is a need to create asuspense or a mysterious atmosphere in her novels, Fang Fang will adapt the sidelinesperspective. Fang Fang’s ongoing exploration and testing in narrative perspectivewriting methods has deepened the artistic exploration in the field of "new realistnovelsâ€.The third part shows “the features of Fang Fang’s novel writing skills in focusof character objectsâ€. As a female writer, grew up in Wuhan since childhood, FangFang has always outspoken her emotion about Wuhan. Wherever she goes, Wuhan isthe only place that she has been thinking and dreaming about. The "Chinese taste" inthe works of Fang Fang is obvious. She has a unique awareness and perception inWuhan’s landscape, history and humanities. By focusing on people and affairs inWuhan, Fang Fang has conveyed the values of the cultural isomorphism between thecity and the people of Wuhan.The fourth part is “Fang Fang’s popularized narrative characteristics in hernovels.†No matter in view of the narrative languages, ways of presentation ornarrative modalities in her novels, Fang Fang’s works all show obviously popularizedqualities. In this chapter, by summing up Fang Fnag’s popularized features in hernarrative novels, we try to tap the writer’s hidden creative purpose and intent.The reason why we choose the narrative point of view as a way to interpret thetext of the Fang Fang’s novels is because, novels as a literary art, narrating smartly ornot may directly affect the charm of the whole work of art. Assuming that we employthe same writing material and the same theme, applying different narrative interval,narrative rhythm, and narrative perspective, or different narrative language skills maymake the artistic effects completely different. This is the charm of narrative art.Therefore, to study and analyze Fang Fang’s narrative art in her novels helps us morefully and comprehensively understand the works of Fang Fang, and help us interpretand appreciate better her writing art world. |
