Mang, the capital of Dehong Dai & Jingpo autonomous prefecture, has been well known as the home of peacock, myth, singing and dancing, even since 1960s. Later, Mang is also known as the“Corridor of traffic”as it is directly connected to many South and Southeast Asia countries. Itis located in the southwest Yunnan province of China, and has uniquegeographical environment and beautiful natural scenery, which attractedpeople from all over the word. With the“Bridgehead”policy beingenforced by Yunnan Province, Mang’s economics see a rapiddevelopment. The rich resources of Mang make it uniquely charming inthe background of globalization. Unfortunately, until now Mang still hasno national port. As a result, although its scene is very beautiful, manytourists just know Ruili but don’t know Mang. Even Mang has the uniquenatural and cultural resources, its local people are considerablyunconscious of tourism industry.Although Mang has rich cultural resources, it is also a veryunderdeveloped region. So what is the advantage of developing tourismindustry in Mang? Will its cultural characteristics disappear with theprocedure of marketization? Now, tourism development and culturalprotection have become a paradox in tourism projects. Will tourismdevelopment definitely harm the cultural value? Or can we make tourism development and culture protection benefit each other throughappropriate and effective ways? We should think about the above twoquestions in deep. In sum, Mang is a city of rich natural resources andcolorful ethnic characteristics, but relatively lagging economy. How tochoose the right development path by adapting to its local conditions, andmake its tourism industry flourish deserve the attention from localgovernment when it is making the planning.
