Trend Of Translation Theory Studies In The Past Three Decades From The Perspective Of Chinese Translators Journal (1980-2010)

Translation Studies in China have gained tremendous achievements since1980s. Chinese Translators Journal has become the most influential academicexchange platform in Chinese translation circle. With the principle of ’letting ahundred schools of thoughts contend", it has played an irreplaceable role andgenerated great influence for our Translation Studies. Therefore, essays published inthis journal are of academic representative, which is an important channel to learnabout Translation Studies in China. From this special perspective, this thesis tends togive a general review of Chinese theoretical translation studies in the past thirty yearsand in the mean time proposes the author’s problems and reflection.First attention goes to Traditional Translation Studies. Seen from ChineseTranslators Journal in1980s and early1990s, traditional translation theory studiescontinued the previous research targets and pursued particular techniques. With thecontinuous introduction to western translation theories afterwards, the interpretationand modern transformation became heated aspects. Studies on western translationtheories come after. Studies shifted from the initial period of direct translation andtotal acceptation of western translation theories to scientific, rational and criticallearning, from the sporadically study on a certain theory or a certain view to a moresystematic way. Meanwhile, the historical origins and development of a theory andrelationship with other theories are also within the scope of contemporary study. Thefinal part is about Translatology. It experienced a tortuous process and fierceargumentation. Thanks to Chinese Translators Journal, many problems weredeepened and related concepts were clarified. It is no doubt conductive to theestablishment and development of a discipline.
