The research findings on Les Contemporans mainly focuse on the three aspects of editing strategy,"modernism" and the authors, however, studies on left-wing literature in Les Contemporans draw little attention. This paper reproduced a complete picture of left-wing literature in Les Contemporans by combing the selected left-wing literary theory and novel creation, and explored the status of left-wing literature in Les Contemporans in left-wing literature movement in1930s.Chapter1introduces the selected left-wing literary theory and novels in Les Contemporans from the perspective of editing strategy. Besides, the writers combed and gathered statistics of the left-wing literary theory, the introduction and translation of novels in Les Contemporans, the discussion on left-wing literature and novel creation in China. The commerciality and pure literature positioning determined the selection of left-wing literature in Les Contemporans. Meanwhile, Les Contemporans had to deal cautiously with the relationship between literature and politics, and to some extent made some balance and compromise between them. The main contents are:New Romanticism, translated by Shi Zhecun, set the tone of left-wing literature in Les Contemporans. Socialistic realism was first introduced into China. The left-wing introduced and translated novels were characterized by extensive theme and timeliness. The authors closely related to "leftist-association" published a great number of works in Les Contemporans, but not all their works belong to left-wing literature, so there existed certain complexity. Les Contemporans provided a platform for "the third category" and "libero".Chapter2combed the left-wing literary theory construction mainly from theoretical aspect. From "the materialistic dialectics writing method" to "socialistic realism", the Chinese left-wing literary theory continued to develop. The main contribution of Les Contemporans lies in that it provided a platform for the argument among left-wing writers,"the third category" and "libero", that it first introduced socialistic realism into China and that it published Raise the flag of petty bourgeoisie Revolution Literature written by Yang Dunren who "betrays" the left-wing literature, and it stated its understanding towards left-wing literature in its own way.Chapter three analyzes the left-wing novels in Les Contemporans mainly from themes and artistic features. The left-wing novels met the requirement for themes and artistic aspects after the setup of "Left-wing", and had its own characteristic. As for themes, it included novels on bumper harvest cause disaster represented by Silkworm; novels on wars represented by Pidgin swordsman; and novels on revolution represented by Brighter. As for artistic features, creation by Shi Zhecun, Duheng etc.. echoed the spirit of "Debunking false mask" and "exposure" advocated by left-wing literary theory construction; Shi Zhecun and others applied the psychological analysis technique in their works.In conclusion, this paper affirmed the achievements that Les Contemporans made in the introduction, translation and creation of left-wing literature. Meanwhile, it pointed out that when the relationship between Les Contemporans and left-wing literature circles became worse, Les Contemporans had to stop publication, which was a matter for regret.
