Geng Wei was a poet in Mid-Tang Dynasty, wasing famous for “theten talents in Dali period” title, although in the later was not very known,but many Tang Dynasty poetry anthology had selected his poetry, soGeng Weishi in the Tang Dynasty has certain influence. Research ofGeng Wei and his poetry could restore a poet’s true face, but also help tostudy the whole Dali poetry system from the part to the integral,andwhich is of significance in study Geng Wei’s poems.Geng Wei was born in the Kaiyuan21years of TangDynasty(AD733) for the tentatively scheduled, died in between theZhenyuan3years and4years of Tang Dynasty(AD787-788). The pepleof Geng Wei had contacted with could be divided into three categories,namely senior official, scholar, hermit, except for the first category, andother two kinds of poems were rich ideological significance and artisticlevel, representing the Geng Wei poetry achievement in high level.Through the Geng Wei poetry, we can appreciate that the literatispirit of Dali poets is multiple, which contain that they complained theplaintive sad fate, pay close attention to the social reality and loyal duty,responded the hyperbole flatter beauty and slightly strenuous frontierpassion and desire, as well as the mountain retreat priteimplicit. In a word, after a rebellion during the catastrophe, the sprit of Dali poets showeddispirited, decadence, indifferent state of mind, poetry style wasdominated by fragile,sentimental or sorrowful.Geng Wei’s poetry was typical of Dali poetry, which displayed thathe was fond of the modern-style poetry, pay attention to exercise; likedrealistic description,and detailed realism, also reflected Dali poetrytending to the realm of deep and remote; the spiritual outlook decline,cold and frugal meal, tone desolate;living hard in his whole life, theinsight and the sensation were profound and fine,which were Geng Wei’spoetry different from other ten talent.At the same time, language was richin fine,alert and philosophical; poetry style was simple, accorded withthe clear and elegant that Dali poetry style had seeded. Geng Wei’s poetryliked using white hair, the fallen leaves, wild goose and cicadaimage.Those images contained the time character, and the color wasdark,or the sensation showed the dreary and plaintive.The overall achievement of Geng Wei’s poetry was not very high,but it played the role that linking up flourishing Tang and Mid-TangDynasty, opening the beginning of late Tang Dynasty, significance ofliterature history should not be ignored.
